Eventful Night

So this was the sight we watched outside our house last night! Well, are you in for a story. So I was making dinner last night in the kitchen and my husband was on the computer doing some work. All of a sudden he walked in the kitchen on the phone giving our address to someone. I looked confused and then he walked back in to the front room and proceeded to tell the person on the phone that there was a fight going on outside of our house. I walked over to the window and saw this beat-up little truck blocking half of our driveway and about 5-6 adults in the middle of the street yelling at each other. My husband was the one who called the police to come and deal with this activity! He was explaining to the dispatcher what he had seen and what was still going on until just after the police arrived. We were both very surprised at just how fast the cops showed up. I was walking back and forth from the kitchen to the window so I will try to explain what we saw. We don't know what started the fight but what we saw was the truck pulled up and the young guy started arguing with one of the guys that lives below us. Then the downstairs neighbors came speeding up to the house and jumped out and joined in the yelling match. Then another guy from across the street came running out of his house down the street and he seemed to escalate the fight. He and the young guy threw some punches just before the cops showed up, 2-3 cars at first.
As soon as the cops showed up, people seemed to scatter. The cops approached the young guy who was back by his truck at this point. He started arguing with the cops so they pushed him on the hood of the truck and tried to get his hands behind his back. He was resisting as he had one cop on each arm trying to pull his hands behind his back. Another cop was behind the guy a little ways holding something. By the time I figured out what was going on the guy was hitting the pavement hard. He was tazered. He dropped quick and the cops handcuffed him easily. They left him on the ground for a little bit (probably to try and recover) and then helped him to the curb to sit. By this time there are 3 cop cars blocking the east side of the street with one more behind those, 1 cop car on the west and soon a Fire & Rescue truck shows up behind the 3 lined up. So 5 cop cars within a few minutes. Only 2 of the other guys were still around giving their "statements". The rescue guys were really checking out this guy to make sure he was ok, checking his blood pressure, heart rate, etc. One cop was taking pictures of the tazered guy and the neighbor who had thrown some punches with the guy. The next thing I know they all start to leave one by one. They only took the one handcuffed guy and no one else. This picture was taken after half of the cars had already left and we're not sure who the guy with a cane is who's just standing on the sidewalk. Random.
Later we found out from our landlord who saw the whole thing, as he happened to be across the street, more details. The handcuffed guy lives down the street and is addicted to drugs apparently. So to some this wasn't too surprising to see. Me on the other hand...I was freaked out, my heart was racing, and by the time dinner was ready, I didn't have much of an appetite anymore.
Later we went for a walk and I was able to calm down and take my mind off of things. We can't wait until we can afford to buy a place of our own and not have crazy neighbors...especially when we won't have neighbors we share thin floors with and hear everything that no one would ever want to hear!
And just to clarify the last post "Surprise..." no I am not pregnant. As I was writing it I was wondering how many people would think I was announcing but it just made me laugh and I kept writing to see peoples reactions. Sorry if I got anyone's hopes up :) Sorry for the long post but it's my way of venting and dealing with the situation so now I can move on in life.

Surprise...

So two week ago today I came home from work sick. I left the house not feeling the best but forced myself to work anyway. I didn't last long though. Brian heard keys in the door around 10:30 and was surprised to see me walking in. I went straight to the bedroom and didn't say anything. I crashed on the bed and Brian came in to find out what was wrong. I explained that I had thrown up at work and now I just wanted to sleep. I slept the rest of the afternoon waking up every hour or so feeling nauseous so I would roll back over and fall back asleep. I think I finally got out of bed around 6 or 7. The next day was similar. I woke up in the morning enough to call my boss to tell her I wouldn't be coming in and slept until about 11. Brian was very good at taking care of me by forcing me to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and trying to get me to eat some crackers. I finally felt a lot better by 3 or 4.

Luckily people at work were great and helped keep up on things while I was sick. I happened to be sick on the day grades were due so grade change forms were coming in like crazy that afternoon...thanks Jess and Coral. It took me a couple of days to really get my appetite back but once I did...boy was I hungry! So not fun having a stomach bug!!

So the surprise is... on Saturday of that week Brian brought me home flowers!! After being sick and then having a stressful rest of the week, Brian thought I needed some flowers to cheer me up! He's so sweet and knows just how to melt my heart. They were tulips, which have been blooming like crazy around here the last month and I had mentioned to Brian how much I like them. So he did a good job at picking them out. I love when my husband surprises me, especially with fresh flowers. They make me so happy!! So I'm back up and running and still enjoying the end of my flowers and the beautiful spring weather. Here are some pictures of the pretty flowers.

Almost 10 months!

So I know Brian and I have been married for almost 10 months but at 9 months we made dinner and then I wanted to make a nice dessert so we made up something with what we had in the house. It ended up being a delicious cake. We made a plain white cake and then when it was done we poked holes in it and poured some sweetened condensed milk over it to soak in. Then we made vanilla pudding (a little thicker than normal) and mixed strawberries in it. We "frosted" the cake with this mixture and then garnished the top with cut up strawberries. It looked pretty nice and we really enjoyed it. It was kind of rich with all the sweetened condensed milk and such but luckily the pudding was sugar free so that helped! I just thought I'd share our great creation with you all and here's a picture for your enjoyment.

Updates!

So we've had quite an eventful month of April but with being sick a few days last week and trying to get pictures uploaded, etc. it has taken me a while to finally get these updates ready to go. I hope you enjoy and hopefully when I get a copy of all my family's pictures from when they were here I'll post more of my sisters graduation pictures. So more pictures to come with my sisters cute kids!

Family Fun

For my little sisters graduation my parents and Tammy's family came down. After commencement on Thursday, April 24th we all went out for dinner at Wallaby's. This was the first time I had seen my newest niece so I loved holding her. She was pretty easy to put to sleep but she would wake up really easily so every time I would put her back in her chair she would get really fussy. I ended up holding her the whole time I ate. I got pretty good at eating with only one hand (as long as Brian cut the meat up for me)! Here's a cute picture of me with my niece.

Then we all went to Boondocks just past the point of the mountain. It has tons of fun activities for everyone. The first thing I saw when we got there was this sign outside the restrooms...
I'm not quite sure if I should be honored or disturbed that the bathroom had my name associated with it!

The first activities we did were outside while it was still light. We rode on the bumper boats and got pretty wet! I don't have any pictures of that adventure but I'm hoping someone else in my family got some pictures because it was pretty entertaining. Then we all took turns riding the go-karts. The guys raced around the track together. This is Brian, Cole, and my dad waiting for the green light.

This is a serious race...

Then soon most of the go-karts started to loose their power and Brian was all alone.

My mom took Rylee and Maria took Cade on a ride. They both looked so happy and had so much fun! My mom said Rylee just chatted the whole time they were driving around. The first car is my mom and Rylee and then behind them is Maria and Cade.

They also have 2 miniature golf courses. We all played the first one and it took a really long time with the little kids and the course was really getting backed up. The next course most of the adults did alone while the grandparents (my parents) watched the little kids inside at the children's cove. The courses were really fun. This is Brian and I in front of one of the elaborate displays on the course.

This is me about to sink my putt!

I was amazed at all the different things they had there to do. Before we left we played a game of laser tag, played the token games and let the little kids pick prizes with all the tickets. We were tired by the end of the night but had so much fun playing with our nieces and nephew!

Where are all the tulips?

Brian and I went to the Tulip Festival at the Thanksgiving Point Gardens April 12. It had been kind of chilly the past few days so we weren't sure what to expect. As we first started through the gardens, this was our first spotting of tulips, red and blue ones. They were really pretty and we were excited to see what the rest of the gardens held for us.

Then we went to the pond and saw the numerous and rather large goldfish. As soon as we walked up they all seemed to gather in one area like it was feeding time or something. I was amazed at how big some of them were.

The gardens have different sections that are all uniquely named. This is a picture of us in the Secret Garden. As you can see, there's not much growth in the garden. It was pretty though, with a water fountain in the middle.

Here you can barely see just a couple of tulips in bloom but you can see where all the tons more are supposed to be (pretty much where all the green is). Still pretty but slightly disappointing when you're expecting to see hundreds of beautiful tulips.

We were pretty discouraged at this point so we detoured off to the children's garden area. Here as soon as we walked up the hill found a beautiful section by a building with all the tulips in full bloom. They were so pretty and I was so excited that I went a little overboard on taking pictures of them. I'll spare you all my attempts and just show you one that Brian took. That made the trip worth while right there.

Further into the children's area we found Noah's Ark. Brian began tending to the animals and you can see Noah in the background to the left. It looked like it usually had water in it for the children to play in but it was still cold so it was empty. Brian loved it! I think he enjoyed the whole children's area the best! There was also a bear cave, a light house kids could actually go inside, and some mazes in the bushes.

After we ate lunch we walked behind the waterfalls. When we first looked from the front, only two or three on the right side were on. We were confused as to why not all of them were running but after we walked above them all and came back to the front, we realized during the time it took us to do that, they had all turned on. We both love waterfalls so it was really cool and beautiful.

Traditions Ball

On April 12, BYU had it's first annual Traditions Ball in the new Hinckley Visitor's Center. We were excited to attend and go on a nice date together. It was a formal affair so it was fun to get dressed up (even though we had gotten a little sunburned from being out at Thanksgiving Point all afternoon)! There was dancing in the ballroom, hors de' oeuvres, picture taking, performing groups upstairs, and dancing under the stars out on the patio. It was a fun evening for us.

In between Thanksgiving Point and the Ball we also had a BBQ at Linsey and Derek's house in Lehi. It was really fun to get together with them and some old friends. Their little boy is really cute too!
