Eventful

Well, this week has been eventful but not in a good way. After a long and good campaign, Congressman Chris Cannon (6 term incumbent) was defeated in the Primary election. My husband has worked with him for years and had been doing a lot the last several weeks for the campaign. Voter turn out was extremely low (possibly a record low) and they new that would be what defeated Cannon. My husband has personally worked with Chaffetz (the one who defeated Cannon) from the Huntsman campaign so I probably know a lot more about him than the average person. But trust me...none of it is good. But luckily Cannon is a great man and stated prior to the results that he will continue to be involved in politics just like he was before he was in Congress. Now I'm just worried about the state of Utah. I think we need to worry about Democrats taking over several seats this year because that's the way things are looking so far.

On to even better news...I came down with a high fever Tuesday evening. I'm sure I had a fever during the campaign party but later that night when I couldn't sleep because I had the chills I took my temperature and it was about 100 degrees. Well, that explained a lot! So I think I may have had a 24 hour flu. Not fun...I stayed home from work yesterday to recoup. I'm feeling better so far but I sure hope it gets a lot better soon because we're going camping tomorrow with our ward. I will share pictures from our first camping trip together after the weekend.

Oh, the Love!

So last Thursday I was showered with love from friends and family for my birthday!! I went to work like any other ordinary day and to my surprise the sweetest lady at work made me her famous lemon poppy seed cake (which we all absolutely love for breakfast)!!! It was so delicious and much appreciated. Then my little sister took me out for lunch. We went over to the MOA Cafe and enjoyed a sandwich, soup, salad, and an Italian soda. I was spoiled! Then when I got back from lunch I had the most beautiful flowers waiting for me on my desk. My wonderful husband brought them by but I was not there to accept them and didn't answer my cell phone so I didn't know he was even on campus until I was headed back to the office anyway. Then that evening after work Brian and I went on a walking tour of a few of the old historic houses in downtown Provo. A few were pretty neat to see the inside of but others were just old buildings. Then he took me out to Red Robin for my birthday dinner. It was a pretty relaxed day but I loved spending time with family and my friends at work on my special day. Thanks to all those who sent well wishes my way!

Announcing...the new and improved

So I decided to update my blog today. I seem to be getting sick of the background I choose rather quickly so I taught myself how to change stuff so I can do it more often! So I hope you enjoy the new look.

Past events:
For Memorial Day weekend we went to a wedding reception Friday night, cleaned the house on Saturday, and just relaxed Sunday and Monday. So it was just a relaxing holiday weekend. One really neat thing about this weekend was the cemetery by our house. There were tons of cars from Friday through Monday - every day, all the time. We took a walk on Sunday through the cemetery and loved seeing all the flowers and people remembering their family and friends. It was such a touching experience. I loved walking and driving by all week just admiring all the beautiful colors in an ordinarily uneventful area.

On to recent events:
Thursday last week Brian's dad came in to town for a business meeting. He stayed with us for two nights. On Friday night he took us out to Tucanos...it was yummy! Then on Saturday morning we drove up to Ogden to visit Brian's grandfather. We got someone to substitute for us in Nursery on Sunday so we stayed overnight. It was really fun to see Grandpa again and spend some time with him. We don't get up to visit family much at all (especially now with gas prices being so high we don't even leave Provo most of the time. I met Brian's aunt and uncle that live in Brigham City for dinner Saturday night. We made dutch oven lasagna and peach cobbler. It was really good. We had a good time chatting most of the day and being out in the backyard. Brian and I both realized how much we missed having a backyard to just be in. The weather was beautiful but a little chill was in the air after dinner as we sat around and talked. However, I may have been the only one who thought that.
Then Sunday we went to church and I really enjoyed it. It was so great to be in a ward with some older people and not jam-packed with infants and toddlers. Then Brian's dad went to the airport that afternoon and Brian and I stayed for dinner and chatted more with Grandpa. Then we drove home that evening. It was such a relaxing and fun weekend spent with family.
