Family Time

I was lucky to get 3 days off work to spend time with my family during the days surrounding my Grandma's funeral. Thursday, Sept 9, my mom and 3 brothers (Brad, Paul, & Adam) flew in to SLC. I went up to Grandma's house that afternoon to see them. My dad got here on Tuesday and had been working out the funeral arrangements with his siblings.

Simon slept in the car and woke up just as we got there so he was a little slow to warm up to everyone but once he was fully awake he LOVED all the attention from his aunts & uncles and also my aunts & uncles that were around. He loved exploring the house and trying to get into everything (no surprise there). I had to keep my eye on him the whole time to make sure he didn't end up down the basement stairs or into all the kitchen cabinets.

Simon crashed at the end of the night because he wouldn't take a late afternoon nap. He fell asleep while I fed him and Grandma was able to keep him asleep until we packed up and got in the car.

I am so grateful I was able to see all of my siblings except Kyle who is serving a mission in Florida. Unfortunately my 2 sister-in-laws were unable to make it but it was so great to see the family that was there. I want to echo what my sister, Tammy, just posted this afternoon. I shed my share of tears and I will continue to miss Grandma, but I can't help but feel happy for her. At one point I felt bad for having so much fun with my siblings and family during this time, but with the knowledge of eternal families, I know this isn't the end. As it was said at the funeral, this was a time to celebrate the life of Anna Lou Seely. More pictures to come of the family and funeral.

My Dear Grandma

When my phone rings early in the morning it's usually not a good sign. So when my phone rang while I was in the shower this morning, I knew something was wrong.

My grandma, Anna Lou Seely, slipped peacefully to the other side during the night. This Saturday, September 11th would mark her 9 year anniversary of being diagnosed with breast cancer. She sure was a fighter! She definitely had her ups and downs over the years but she truly fought through some tough times.

I will always remember her fun, spunky personality. The fleece blanket she made for me and each of her grandkids. That was Grandma's thing. I will remember the poem she wrote for Simon when he was born. There are so many wonderful things I will remember about her.

One of the greatest things that brings me so much comfort during this time is that she is no longer suffering. When her chemo treatments changed a few weeks ago, the side effects were really hard on her. She has suffered long enough and Heavenly Father has called her home. I am so grateful for the knowledge that I have of families and the eternities. I will see Grandma again and I am so grateful for the example she has set for me and all of her posterity.
